HUAYACAN BUTTERFLY AREA
In the Butterfly Area you will be able to find several species of butterfly from the valley region of Mexico and Cuernavaca. We have butterflies of different species such as Leptophopia aripa, Ascia Monuste, Cebritas (Heliconea Charitonia), Monarchs (Danaus Plexippus), Dione Juno, Dione Moneta, Phoebes Senae and Philea, Pyrisitia, Fatimas, Queen (Danaus Gillipus), and Mimoides.
There has been success in reproducing all of these species within the garden and flight area. So all the butterflies on display are raised in our laboratory and are from the region.
BUTTERFLIES IN MORELOS…
In Huayacán and healthy parts around from Cuernavaca , we have monarch butterflies all year round, they are not migratory and are solitary. Their host plant (asclepia) is still abundant in places near rivers, ravines and rural areas, which is why it is important to keep ravines, forests, rivers and fields clean and healthy. As well as knowing and recognizing the caterpillars, so as not to confuse them with pest.

We invite you to visit the Gran Mariposario Huayacán, where you can observe live butterflies flying near you, as well as learn about their metamorphosis process, their host plant, and all their stages, caterpillars and cocoons.
Our Butterfly Area celebrates 10 years of operation, we have received school visits from kindergarten to university student. The visits have been very enriching for both us and the students who learned a lot about butterflies and the environment. The cost of the visit is $50 pesos per student, teachers do not pay.
